On Jan. 17, I made an appearance at the Compass Church in Salinas, Calif. Since we were already in the area, Rachael and II decided to drive up with Hudson to Napa for a few days.
Those few days turned into several additional days due to Winter Storm Jonas, which closed New York area airports, but we got to see a lot of friends (including Brendon, who lives in Sacramento), so it was fine.
Like his mom, Hudson loves California. He was really great over the entire extended trip.
On Jan. 6 and 7 I traveled up to Canada to appear at the North American International Motorcycle Supershow.
When 9/11 happened, it was maybe the second year of my father and I making motorcycles. I was at the steel shop when I heard the news over the radio, and I remember thinking, How horrible is that — some small plane must have gotten off course and hit the towers. I’d been in the towers before, and I was feeling terrible that people there might have gotten hurt. Of course, once the second plane hit, we all realized what was really going on. I went home and I was wiped out for days.
So the 9/11 Memorial Bike was meaningful and moving to me — probably the most meaningful bike I’ve ever done. It was a great, great honor to build it, and it’s appropriate that this was my last unveil on American Chopper.
Vinnie started his own shop, Dimartino Motorsports, a garage that services and repairs cars and trucks. It’s right down the street from me, actually. While we don’t work together anymore, he does sometimes pitch in, like with this year’s GEICO Armed Forces Bike‘s annual maintenance. You can follow Vinnie on Facebook for more updates.
I wish I saw him more, but between his business and his family he’s really busy!
Say hello to Hudson Seven Teutul! He was born on Feb. 3, 2015 — his due date. He was right on time!
Hudson is 8.9 pounds and 22 inches long. According to Paul, Rachael was a warrior and a hero, enduring 29 hours in labor and 2 1/2 hours of pushing.
